To mark Photofusion’s 10th Anniversary, we are delighted to present the first exhibition of Italian photographer Mario Giacomelli since a retrospective exhibition toured Britain in the early 1980s. An artist who rarely left his native country but whose images are universally inspirational, the exhibition is an opportunity to see works spanning five decades - from the famous 'Scanno' boy image to the snowballing priests, surreal landscapes and poignant photographs of the elderly.

Since his death in November 2000, Mario Giacomelli has become acclaimed as one of the most original photographic artists of the twentieth century who embraced how a photograph can convey the poetic, the dreamlike and the unfathomable. Combining a playful approach to creating an image with surprisingly unconventional working methods, he is more frequently compared to painters than to his photographer peers.

Throughout this exhibition, original prints by Mario Giacomelli are for sale. Each silver gelatin print is an original - at no time can further editions be reproduced as Giacomelli had a very unique method of printing which cannot be replicated.

Photofusion is very grateful to the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and to Ken Damy Gallery, who have each loaned works from their collections for the exhibition.
