Pedro Younis

Hi everyone :) My name is Pedro Younis and I'll be doing the Members takeover for Photofusion this week!

I will be sharing some travel photography from different countries I've had the pleasure to visit and photograph.

The first one on the list is Italy, a place I've spent a lot of time in and never ceases to amaze and inspire me. Here's a selection of photos from Naples in the Summer.

A little bit about me: I grew up in Portugal and have been taking photos since as long as I can remember, from disposable cameras on Primary school trips and photographing the people in my life non-stop all the way to the present, where I continue to do that whilst also working as a freelance photographer doing all sorts of projects, from live performances to fashion shoots and many other things.

Earlier this year I did the 'Step-Up Photography' course with Photofusion and have really enjoyed becoming a member and part of their community, and getting to know so many nice people and incredible artists. Not only has it become my go-to place for film developing and printing, but also somewhere I can go to if I want to talk about any ideas or projects I have in mind. The Step-Up course was a great way to learn about different artists and photographic methods, as well as meeting like-minded people who also share my passion for photography.

I hope you enjoy the photos and hopefully we'll meet at one of Photofusion's exhibitions!

For my second post I am sharing some of my favourite photographs from my 'West Coast Dreams' series, which I shot in 2019 during a long road trip across California, USA.

I was struck by the colours and the cinematic atmosphere of the Golden State, where everywhere I looked seemed like a movie still. I tried capturing that feeling in my photos whilst also trying to stay true to what was right in front of my eyes.

For my third and final post I am sharing some photos from my most recent trip, Japan.

I fell in love with the country and its people, and will definitely be back for a longer trip to photograph more of it. Japanese people love photography and care deeply about it as an art form, something that is felt very clearly and that definitely inspired me during my trip. It has unique sceneries, not only natural ones but also from mixing some of the most modern urban landscapes with extravagant and colourful lights. I also found the very opposite of the endless visual stimulation that Japan is famous for, there are many places where calm and peaceful minimalism are the norm, which creates a bold and unique contrast when trying to capture a portrait of a country.

I hope you've enjoyed these photos and feel inspired to visit these places and immerse yourself in their culture, whilst also making your own photographic portrait of them.

And one final thank you to Photofusion for providing me with the opportunity to share some of my work with its members! :)

Love,

Pedro.
