Robert Weir

Hello, My name is Robert Weir, I'm a photographer based in Eryri (Snowdonia), North Wales, UK. I'm doing an Photofusion member takeover this week, sharing three works made with Photofusion, from a project on the A55 (North Wales Expressway).

This image shows a McDonalds just outside of Chester. Along the first section of the A55 there seems to be an abundance of McDonalds.

My goal with this project is to show what a modern A-Road looks like in the UK in 2023, what facilitates it and what is the residue of such a road, designed to carry so much heavy traffic and have so many people pass over it? The A55 passes through urban, industrial and rural landscapes of significant beauty, I want to try and capture all of this.

I am a Photofusion member and regularly travel down to Brixton from Wales to use Photofusion darkroom, I also send my film by post to be developed by Photofusion. I do this because of the high quality and consistency of their services and being a member means that I save a huge amount of money on the whole process of making work like this, as someone on a fairly low income this is a huge bonus and would struggle to continue to work on projects like this without this advantage.

The image I'm sharing today shows a car park/retail park situated on the A55, when printing this photo I deliberately left the foreground dark in order to expose the sky correctly, this creates an effect that the viewer has to strain to see the retail park.

This is the final image I will be sharing, I am interested in what litter and debris says about a space. In this instance the litter from one of the many fast food chains along the early sections of the A55.
