Introduction to Studio Lighting - Sunday 24 November
Dates: 24 November 2024
Days: Sunday
Time: 11:00 - 17:00
Length: 1 Day
Tutor: D. Waife
Lighting is a fundamental component of photography which, when used correctly, can significantly enhance your image.
Come and join us for a one-day course that will introduce you to working in a professional photographic studio environment. This course covers using Pro Foto industry-standard lighting kits, assembling multiple lighting techniques, and learning studio best practices. We will debunk industry terminology and give you the confidence to continue to work in a studio beyond the course.
The introductory course is suitable for photographers of all skill levels, from beginners looking to learn the basics of lighting to more advanced photographers seeking to expand your portfolio and learn how to create more dynamic and artistic portraits.
You will have the chance to shoot portraits of fellow students/a new face model and leave with a selection of photographs to add to your portfolio.
The course will provide you with the technical tools to add another layer of creativity to your photographs. We will look at:
- Assembling and operating studio lighting equipment and triggering them wirelessly.
- The different qualities of light: hard, soft, broad, and short lighting.
- Light modifiers: soft box, beauty dish, umbrellas, reflectors.
- One, two, and three light setups.
- Professional lighting techniques: high/low key and fill.
- Backgrounds and props.
- Fundamentals of portraiture composition and working with a model.
Bring along your fully charged camera and make sure you have an empty SD card.
This course is limited to a maximum of 10 people.
The course is led by D. Wiafe, an artist, educator, and the Course Leader of BA (Hons) Commercial Photography at The London College of Communication.
