Photography and the Senses with Tom Lovelace - Saturday 14 December
Dates: 14 December 2024
Days: Saturday
Time: 10:30 – 16:30
Length: 6 hours
Tutor: Tom Lovelace
Website: www.tomlovelace.co.uk
Tom Lovelace’s practice investigates photography as a medium to be explored through the body as a sensory site. Pictures are made and presented to be responded to with the body, through touch, movement and sound. This approach to photography will be the starting point for this course.
Photography is primarily understood and studied through perception and acts of looking. This one-day course examines photography as a form which transforms the body through all of its senses. Participants are invited to explore their own relationship with photography through a framework of the body as a sensory site for experimentation.
The course will include:
An introductory talk by Tom and an opportunity for participants to introduce themselves or their photography through an image/photography/material or object.
Informal exercises exploring photography through themes of touch, movement and sound.
Individual and group working and experimentation.
The session will finish with time to show, reflect and share outcomes.
The workshop is open to all, no specific skills are required, and participants are not required to have a photographic practice. We welcome participation from those with an interest in contemporary photography, performance or movement and the body.
On the day, participants are asked to bring along a camera (this can be any form of camera, an SLR, DSLR, Compact, Smartphone Camera for example).
As it is the last Photofusion course before Christmas, the session will conclude with festive drinks and snacks.
Tom Lovelace is a London based artist, working across photography and performance. Photography and the Senses is part of a series of workshops delivered by Lovelace across cultural and educational spaces, including the Royal Academy of the Arts, Tate Modern and The Photographer’s Gallery. Lovelace is currently completing doctoral research, with a focus on his body of work the Living Pictures, at the University of Westminster. As a Lecturer he works at the Royal College of Art, London.
