Dates: 21 November 2024
Days: Thursday
Time: 18:00 – 20:00 GMT
Length: 2 hours
This workshop takes place on ZOOM
This course is suitable to both beginners and advanced practitioners working within the field of Photography and AI. As AI technology is in constant development, we also welcome back participants from our Symbiosis Unveiled : Integrating AI and Symbiosis Unveiled II : Further Integrating AI.
An exploratory two-hour course which complements our previous AI workshops, in which participants will:
· Explore the increasing use of AI tools by artists, within the historical context of automation in art.
· Probe how artists use AI in different ways and for different reasons.
· Develop strategies for thinking about AI as a tool, both from a photographic perspective and in a conceptual sense.
· Participate in practical assignments and receive feedback.
Schedule:
First-half
Sarah-Jane and Chris will present how they utilise AI within their practices. Their talks will address questions and reflections that inevitably emerge when working with the latest technologies: touching on taste, ethics, education and more.
This will be followed by a presentation on how computer-generated art has evolved and continues to do so. Examples of other artists working with AI as a tool to produce dynamic bodies of work will also be presented and discussed. The discussion will also explore the ethical implications and limitations of generative processes.
15-minute comfort break
Second-half
We will reconvene for an overview of the major routes into thinking about AI as a tool. This will include a breakdown of concepts like machine vision and creativity, and whether there is an emergent "aesthetic" in AI output given developers' quest for ‘reality’.
Participants will then split into groups for a short practical assignment.
Participants will present their results to the group and discuss whether they achieved their aims and if not, explore ways of doing so.
Participants need a stable internet connection.
